What is Ecocert Cosmos certification?
Based in France, Ecocert is a certification body which certifies organic growers and processors mainly in Germany, in Europe, and more than 20 other countries around the world. It is a globally trusted organic certification.
There were several organic cosmetic standards including Ecocert in Europe. However, sometimes these criteria are slightly different. It became necessary to unify standards in order to develop organic cosmetics in Europe.
The demand for uniform standards from consumers, trade associations and the distribution industry has grown. The EU Cosmetics Regulation was formed in 2004, and France’s Cosmebio and Ecocert, Germany’s BDIH, Italy’s ICIA, and the U.K. Soil Association joined. After six years of consultation, the unified standard, “COSMOS”, was created on May 13, 2010, and since January 2017 it has unified and completely shifted to “COSMOS”.
